Forum of Regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus to be held in the second half of summer

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Forum of the Regions of Uzbekistan and Belarus on the theme “Cooperation of the regions as a key factor of intergovernmental relations” will be held within the framework of the official visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev is expected to visit Belarus in August 2019.

A meeting of the organizing committee for the preparation and holding of the Forum of the Regions of Belarus and Uzbekistan was held in the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus under the leadership of the Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Republic Marianna Shchetkina.

The Forum is based on the idea of promoting the implementation of the Roadmap activities of cooperation, which the countries signed in November 2018.

During the sectional and plenary sessions of the Forum, participants are expected to discuss issues of industrial cooperation, agriculture and food industry, humanitarian, scientific cooperation and innovation, inter-parliamentary interaction.

It is also planned to sign agreements between the regions, the educational institutions of the two countries. The conclusion by Belarusian enterprises (BelAZ, MAZ, SvetlogorskKhimvolokno) of commercial contracts with the Uzbek side is being worked out.

Marianna Schetkina expressed confidence that the Forum of Regions will create a good foundation for further cooperation between the two countries. “Now the Government and the National Assembly are working in all directions for the success of the Forum,” the Vice-President of the Council of the Republic said.

The chairmen of the standing commissions of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic, representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture, the Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other ministries and state bodies, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Republic of Belarus Nasirjhan Yusupov took part in the meeting of the organizing committee.
