Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 7 July 2019, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov, who participates in the interregional meeting «Central Asia — European Union», met with the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in Bishkek , Vice President of the European Commission Federica Mogherini.
The parties discussed the state and prospects for further development of relations in the Uzbekistan-European Union format, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
The parties highly appreciated the results of the visit of President of the European Council Donald Tusk to Uzbekistan and his talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on 31 May 2019 in Tashkent.
It was emphasized that in recent years, Uzbek-European relations have reached a qualitatively new level and are filled with concrete practical content in all areas of cooperation. In this context, the parties welcomed the launch of the negotiation mechanism on the draft Agreement on Extended Partnership and Cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union, the signing of which should be a landmark event in bilateral relations.
As it was noted, the introduction of a visa-free regime for citizens of all EU countries in Uzbekistan this year encourages «people’s diplomacy», including activating contacts in trade, economic, investment, cultural, humanitarian and other fields.
The meeting also discussed issues of cooperation in the Afghan area, as well as selected topics of international and regional politics.
